The mission of the Alton Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in the Town of Alton, NH by working cooperatively with the public and within the framework of the United States Constitution and Laws of the State, to preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment for our citizens, especially our children. To seek prosecution of those who knowingly commit criminal acts and disregard the rights of others. To honor the values and diversity of every citizen by treating all with dignity, fairness, respect, understanding, and compassion.
The Alton Police Department will set new and higher goals and strive for excellence within our department by employing men and women whose standards and principles are reflected in the professional manner in which they respond and assist the citizens we serve. To expect from our Members dedication as individuals and as a team by putting forth their collective energies, talents and resources to provide the utmost quality of professional policing services to all. The Alton Police Department is located on Depot Street which is off Main Street (the downtown area), in the Town of Alton, State of New Hampshire, County of Belknap. The Town of Alton has 87 miles of roadway and is bordered by: the Town of Wolfeboro on the northeast side; the Town of Gilford on the northwest side; the Town of Gilmanton on the west/southwest side; the Town of Barnstead on the south/southeast; and the Town of New Durham on the east/southeast side. The state highways within Alton are Route 11 (west to Gilford, east to New Durham) and Route 28 (north to Wolfeboro, south to Barnstead). The Town of Alton is also bounded by several Counties: Belknap County (Laconia), Carroll County (Wolfeboro) and Strafford County (New Durham). The Court of jurisdiction for the Town of Alton is located in Laconia NH.
The Alton Police Department is comprised of: a Chief of Police, who is appointed by the Selectmen, and as such is the Chief Executive of the Department. The Chief of Police has full authority and responsibility for the operational management, direction and control and administration of the Department; a Captain, Sergeant, Detective, six full time Patrol Officers, six part time Patrol Officers, including an Animal Control Officer, as well as one Dispatcher, an Executive Secretary, and an auxiliary post such as a Victim Advocate.
The Alton Police Department has the legally mandated authority to enforce the applicable Laws of the State of New Hampshire and the Ordinances of the Town of Alton, within the limits established by the constitutional authority. The Law Enforcement Officers for the Town of Alton Police Departments has the fundamental duty to serve the residents of Alton, to safeguard their lives and property, to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder, and to respect the constitutional rights of all men to liberty, equality and justice.
