Chief Philip A Smith Jr

Personal Bio: Began Law Enforcement career in 1984 with the Salem NH Police Department, Promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1997, Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 2001, Became Chief of Police in Alton NH 2007.

Law Enforcement Physical Fitness Specialist 1997

Education: Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science/ History. Master of Science in Criminal Justice.

Hobbies: amateur wrestling and physical fitness.

Message: There is no such thing as LUCK; Luck is where preparation meets opportunity.

Captain Heath

Captain Heath started out his career in 1995 by joining the USMC. He served with the Security Force Battalion until 1997 then was transferred to the 3rd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion. He achieved the rank of Sgt. before departing in 1999. He became a Correctional Officer at the NH State Prison and worked as a part-time Officer for the Town of Pittsfield. He was hired as a full-time Officer for the Town of Alton in 2000, where he has worked his way through the ranks. Capt. Heath holds over fourteen law enforcement instructor certifications along with several investigative and tactical training certifications. He is currently the Department’s Operations Commander.

Personal Message: Remember it takes courage to make the right decisions. Be a Leader not a follower. Don’t let someone else control your future.

Sergeant MacDougall

Sergeant MacDougall was hired in November 2002 after having worked for the Somersworth Police Dept and the Dept of Defense Police. He currently has an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and hopes to return to school in the very near future. When he’s not working, Todd enjoys spending time with his wife and kids.

Personal Message: Remember, your actions today could have unexpected consequences tomorrow.

School Resource Officer Llewellyn

Pete joined the department in August of 2000 as a full time Officer. He now holds the rank of School Resource Officer. He is also cross trained as an accident reconstruction, and criminal investigations. Pete enjoys hunting, fishing, boating, and riding his motorcycle.

Personal Message: Positive attitudes change everything (PACE).

Detective Borge

Detective Borge is a retired military man having served 24 plus years (active duty) in the U. S. Coast Guard. In May 1999, he was hired by the New Hampshire State Police as a Gaming Investigator and he is a graduate of the 121st NH Police Standards and Training Academy. After serving five years with the State Police, Detective Borge was hired by the Alton Police Department in August 2004 as a patrolman. On February 29, 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Detective. Detective Borge brings to this department many years of police, military and life experience and; when he’s not working, he enjoys spending most of his time with his lovely wife, two sons and their families; which includes five grandchildren.

Personal Message: We are all writing our life’s legacy. What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind? Remember, making the wrong choices in life is easy. Making the hard choices builds character, integrity and molds leaders. Leadership isn’t about what you do or how you do it, it’s about who you are. Integrity is doing the RIGHT THING, THE RIGHT WAY FOR THE RIGHT REASONS.

Officer Pitman

Officer Pitman has been employed with the department since August 2006. Prior to relocating to New Hampshire, he was employed as a law enforcement officer in Kissimmee, Florida. He holds an Associate Degree and Bachelors Degree in Economics and is, at present, working towards his Masters Degree in Criminal Justice Studies. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, skiing, and watching sports: Patriots and Red Sox.

Personal Message: The best mind-altering drug is truth.

Officer Vanderhoof

Officer Vanderhoof grew up in the Pacific Northwest (Spokane, WA). He was hired in Alton in April 2007 after having worked for the Somersworth Police Dept. Prior to this, he worked as a Police Officer in Sarasota Florida since 1998. He also served in the U.S. Army and overseas, as a Reconnaissance Scout (LRSU) and he is fluent in German. He is a member of the Belknap Regional Special Operations Group (SWAT). He is also trained as a Firearms & OC Instructor, Field Training Officer, Motorcycle Officer, and Breath Test Operator. During his time off he enjoys his wife, his children, and all the recreations New Hampshire has to offer and he is always looking forward to furthering his education.

Officer Skiba

Serving in law enforcement since 2001 from the state of Michigan. Transferred to NH in 2004 where he served for 2 1/2 years in Somersworth until transferring to Alton in May of 2007. Since coming to Alton, Nick has been certified as an instructor of the expandable baton, and the Taser X26. Nick enjoys the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, running, swimming.

Personal Message: "To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, just remember that sometimes we are the reaction."

Officer Tremblay

Officer Tremblay was hired on April 20, 2007. This is his first law enforcement job, having previously worked in sales for New Hampshire Distributors in Concord, NH. Officer Tremblay attended St. Joseph’s College of Maine for two years where he studied History and Business. Some time soon he hopes to continue his education by returning to school. He enjoys hiking, playing music, reading and spending time with his friends and fiancé in his off time. He looks forward to help better the town of Alton through creating a safer community to live in.

Personal Message: Think before you act, for your decision has many outcomes.

Officer Sullivan

Officer Sullivan first took the Police Officers Oath with the New York City Police Department on June 9th, 2006. He spent 6 months at the New York City Police Department Police Academy located in the center of New York City. He received highly advanced training in the area of Police Science. Officer Sullivan also received training in various areas of Homeland Security and Weapons of Mass Destruction and responding to such incidents. Upon completion of the Academy, Officer Sullivan was stationed in the 32ND Precinct located in Harlem. While Officer Sullivan was stationed in the 32nd Precinct he learned valuable skills in policing a multicultural society. Officer Sullivan also spent time working various details at some of the city’s largest gatherings like New Years Eve in Time Square. In October of 2007 Officer Sullivan joined the Alton Police Department. He hopes to bring his training and experience from the city and apply it to his duties in Alton. Officer Sullivan enjoys a challenging round of golf. When not playing golf Officer Sullivan enjoys spending time with his friends and family.

Personal Message: Slow down and enjoy life, each day is a new day with a different ending. Thank you to all the members of the Armed Forces for protecting this great country of ours-Godspeed.

Officer Murray

Officer Murray became a Certified Part-Time Officer in 2000. He began working for the Town of alton in April of 2004. He studied Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement with S.U.N.Y. He enjoys Hunting and Fishing.

Personal Message: Treat people in the way you wish to be treated.

Officer Hannafin

Officer Hannafin was hired as a Part-Time Officer in 1999 and continues to serve the Town of Alton. Officer Hannafin is also a Lieutenant with the Alton Fire Department. He enjoys spending time with his family. Family and true friends are the most important thing we have in life, respect each other.

Officer Driscoll

Officer Driscoll is a former Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps. He has over 15 years experience in the fire service as an EMT, Hazmat Technician, Technical Rescue Instructor and Incident Commander. He began his law enforcement career in NH with the Newington PD and became an Alton Officer in November 2004. He is currently assigned as a firearms instructor and evidence technician. He has a Bachelors Degree in Criminology. He enjoys reading non-fiction, hunting and fishing.

Personal Message: Honesty is admirable. Lying is cowardly. Be mature enough to take responsibility for your actions.

Animal Control Officer/Patrol Scott

Officer Scott is a certified part-time Officer and the Animal Control Officer. He has 14+ years experience as a retail manager and is currently a builder in Alton. He enjoys boating and scuba diving in his spare time.
