Special Olympics   NH LAW ENFORCEMENT TORCH RUN

The Alton Police Department has 1-4 Officers participating each year in the Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of the Special Olympians of our Town and around the State of NH. The Alton Police Association also supports and donates to the Olympic games.

The Mission Statement of the Law Enforcement Torch Run is to provide year round fundraising and public awareness events in support of Special Olympics in New Hampshire.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run is one of the largest Special Olympics fundraising events in NH. Every branch of State, Municipal, County and Federal Law Enforcement has participated in the Torch Run. The Law Enforcement community has raised more than one million dollars in the history of the Torch Run.

In a series of 18 “legs” members of the Law Enforcement community run relays that cover more than 850 miles of NH roads. The runners carry the Special Olympics “Flame of Hope” to the Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Games at the University of New Hampshire (UNH) in Durham the first weekend in June.

The winter Olympics are held at Waterville Valley in February each year. All Games are open to the public and it is an awesome presentation of what our NH Olympians can accomplish in a variety of team and independent sports.
