Information for Voters

Voter Registration

To register to vote you will need a photo ID and two pieces of mail with an Alton physical address (not a PO Box). If naturalized citizen, please bring in your naturalization papers with the name of court and date naturalized or a US Passport. The registration form must be completed at the Town Clerk’s office or at a Supervisors of the Checklist session (see Important Election Dates) or on the day of an election at the polls.

Nov 14, 2016 First day to accept petitions to amend zoning ordinance, historic district ordinance or building code for consideration at March 2017 town meeting

Dec 14, 2016 Last day to accept petitions to amend zoning ordinance, historic district ordinance or building code for consideration at March 2017 town meeting

Jan 10, 2017 Last day for 25 or more voters in the town to petition selectmen to include an article in the town meeting warrant, provided that if a petitioned article proposes a bond governed by RSA 33:8-a, the deadline is the preceding Friday, January 6

Jan 24 Supervisors of the Checklist will be in session from 7 to 7:30 p.m. to accept voter registrations – side entrance to town hall (Depot Street)

January 25-February 3 Filing period for town and school offices (Feb. 3 open until 5:00)

Jan 28 Supervisors of the Checklist will be in session from 11 to 11:30 a.m. to accept voter registrations – side entrance to town hall (Depot Street)

Feb 4 School Deliberative Session @ 1:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the Prospect Mountain High School (snow date Feb. 6 @ 7:00 p.m.)

Feb 7 Town Deliberative Session @ 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the Prospect Mountain High School (snow date Feb. 8 @ 7:00 p.m.)

Mar 3 Last day for Town Clerk to accept voter registrations for Town Election

Mar 4 Supervisors of the Checklist will be in session from 11 to 11:30 a.m. to accept voter registrations – side entrance to the town hall (Depot Street) No additions or corrections shall be made to the checklist after this session until election day.

March 13 Last day for Town Clerk to accept absentee ballots filed in person-open until 5:00 p.m.

March 14 Town Election Day – voters may register at the polls (7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.)

March 17 Last day for any person for whom a vote was cast to apply to Town Clerk for a recount-open until 5:00 p.m.

March 21 Last day for 10 voters of a town to petition clerk to recount ballots on any question printed on the official ballot-open until 5:00 p.m.
