Overview
We strive to provide helpful and relevant resources to online visitors while ensuring their safety and privacy as they visit our site. This Website Privacy and Security Statement addresses the collection and use of information about visits to our site.
Security and Privacy
We collect information about your visit to ensure the security of the site, and to understand how the website is used so that we can make changes to the site when necessary.
What information is collected?
1. Domain names, linked inbound and outbound;
2. IP addresses;
3. Device, browser, and operating system information;
4. Search terms;
5. Date and time of access;
6. Pages visited;
7. Video play statistics;
This collected information is not personally identifiable. Further, the collected information is used to analyze security and statistics associated with how the website is used. For example, the collection of search terms that might return zero results to the site user allows us to identify areas where we can make improvements.
Sometimes, personally identifiable information might be voluntarily submitted by means of an electronic website form. In this case, we will accept and collect this information. Examples of personally identifiable information may include:
1. Your name, address, or phone number;
2. An email address if you are communicating to us through email;
3. Information you may voluntarily submit to the Town of Alton for the purposes of completing or submitting an application or form online;
4. Other information volunteered, such as vendor profile/contact information, survey information or other content.
The information collected is not limited to text and may include audio, video and other graphic formats you may choose to send us.
Depending on the reason for your contact, the Town of Alton may find it appropriate to share personally identifiable information among its own departments and agencies to provide a faster or more appropriate resolution to your request(s).
Other methods of information collection and monitoring are in use to identify and eliminate threats posed by cyber security incidents such as data breaches and intrusions.
How is information collected?
We use a combination of Google Analytics, Wistia Video Analytics, and Log and Report data from Website Management Platform. Google’s ability to use and/or share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use (as amended for government websites) and the Google Privacy Policy.
Other utilities are used to monitor network traffic to the site. These built in tools help us identify and eliminate possible threats posed by malicious actors. These built in utilities acquire IP addresses, Countries, and specific information in regards to the links accessed by the remote user.
Where does the information go?
We retain information (both identifiable and non-identifiable) behind private and protected networks. Visitors should be aware that information collected through a NH municipal website (such as this one) might be subject to examination and inspection, if such information is considered a public record or not otherwise protected from disclosure.
Revisions
As the Town continues to utilize new technological resources to better serve its residents and visitors, revisions and updates to this Privacy and Security statement will be necessary. Any additions to this statement will be posted to the website for your review with a revision date listed at the header of the page.
